Ceramic Drawing Boxes (for Waddesdon Manor), bone china trinket boxes, silkscreen transfer decoration, 2009
When I first visited the Waddesdon Manor, I heard the great history of the Manor a long with stolen golden boxes. Over 100 gold boxes and other precious items, mainly 18th century French with some English were stolen. Inspired by that, wanted to replace them with my ceramic boxes.
While looking around the manor, I was also fascinated by the concept and scenes of ‘Drawing Rooms’. Particularly about the fact that their names are related to colour such as ‘Red Drawing Room’ and ‘Grey Drawing Room’. Thus, I wanted to draw them onto my works and my ceramic boxes became ‘Drawing boxes’ with ‘Drawing Rooms’ drawings.
